Farting About: The Royal Road to Language Proficiency

I got this game recently called June’s Journey. It’s not as good as I hoped, tbh, and if I was playing it in English I’d have given up by now, but setting it to Portuguese settings turns out to be quite useful. A lot of the gameplay hinges in spotting items in a picture and clicking on them. Since the names of all the items are in Portuguese (Brazilian Portuguese, but hey…) it has turned out to be quite a good way of learning new vocabulary.

I have a couple of games that I play in Portuguese already, but this is the one that looks set to be the most beneficial.

  1. Thanks for the recommendation for hidden object games! I never realised they were a thing. I downloaded June’s Journey, then another game called Hidden City: Hidden Object Adventures, which I liked a little better because it didn’t have the decoration elements. But I got a bit sick of the microtransactions and addictive style of the game so I had a look on Steam and there are loads of hidden object puzzle games in Portuguese and other languages! I bought one called Enigmatis which had a kind of creepy supernatural mystery.

Anyway, I’ve been playing both Enigmatis and Hidden City and they are really good for learning everyday objects like ladder, wrench, fan etc. These are words you’d pick up living in the country but are a lot harder to learn out of the country. Anyway, the Portuguese word “bengala” is engraved in my brain now xD

    1. Hi! Sorry, I didn’t see the notification for this till just now. Thanks, I like the sound of Enigmatis. I’ll have a look on steam next time I’m at my laptop 😊
