I’ve seen Mariza before and she was excellent. She brought a lot of big names on your with her too, so if you live in my town, I’ll see you there!

Melhor de Mim
This is the song Mariza sang as an encore at the concert. It’s more motivational-poetry-ish than I’m really comfortable with, but that’s OK, each to their own, and a lot of people really seem to like it. There are a few versions on youtube but I think I like this live, acoustic version better than the official video (which is definitely trying too hard imho)
| Hoje a semente que dorme na terra E que se esconde no escuro que encerra Amanhã nascerá uma flor Ainda que a esperança da luz seja escassa A chuva que molha e passa Vai trazer numa luta amor | Today the seed that sleeps in the earth And that hides in the enclosing darkness Tomorrow a flower will be born Even though the hope of light is scarce The rain that wets and moves on Is going to fight to bring love |
| Também eu estou à espera da luz Deixou-me aqui onde a sombra seduz Também eu estou à espera de mim Algo me diz que a tormenta passará | I’m waiting for light too He left me here where the shade seduces I’m waiting for myself too Something tells me the torment will pass |
You have to lose so you can win And even without seeing it, believe it It’s life that goes on and doesn’t wait for people Every step forward that we take Walking without fear of going wrong I believe the night always becomes day And the light the sun gives out Will surely always shine on me |
| Quebro as algemas neste meu lamento Se renasço a cada momento Meu destino na vida é maior | I’m breaking the handcuffs in this my lament Of rebirth in every moment My destiny in life is greater |
| Também eu vou em busca da luz Saio daqui onde a sombra seduz Também eu estou à espera de mim Algo me diz que a tormenta passará | I too am in search of the light I’m getting out of here where the shade seduces I’m waiting for myself too Something tells me the torment will pass |
You have to lose so you can win And even without seeing it, believe it It’s life that goes on and doesn’t wait for people Every step forward that we take Walking without fear of going wrong I believe the night always becomes day And the light the sun gives out Will surely always shine on me |
I know the best of me is yet to come I know the best of me is yet to come I know the best of me is yet to come |
Mariza
(Edited this and the previous one. Lots of typos recently. Sorry. All this typing while walking and typing while on the bus is taking its toll, apparently. Thanks to Cristina for the corrections)
No Autocarro
Não me admira. Houve três convidados no palco naquele espectáculo, incluindo Carlos do Carmo. Leva 4 paga 1.
Primavera – Amália Rodrigues
Well, I mentioned it’s spring here in the northern hemisphere, so here’s my attempt at a translation of Primavera. I can’t find any videos of Amália singing it but I’ll drop a live recording of Mariza’s version here for those who don’t know it.
Todo o amor que nos prendera /All the love that had stuck to us
Como se fora de cera /As if it were wax
Se quebrava e desfazia /Broke apart and disintegrated
Ai, funesta Primavera! /Oh terrible spring!
Quem me dera, quem nos dera /If only I, if only we
Ter morrido nesse dia /Had died on that day
Ai, funesta Primavera /Oh terrible spring
Quem me dera, quem nos dera /If only I, if only we
Ter morrido nesse dia /Had died on that day
E condenaram-me a tanto /And they condemned me so much
Viver comigo o meu pranto / To live with myself and with my mourning
Viver, viver e sem ti / To live to live without you
Vivendo sem no entanto / But living without
Eu me esquecer desse encanto /forgetting that enchantment
Que nesse dia perdi / That I lost in that day
Vivendo sem no entanto / But living without
Eu me esquecer desse encanto /forgetting that enchantment
Que nesse dia perdi / That i lost on that day
Pão duro da solidão / The stale bread of loneliness
É somente o que nos dão / Is all the give us
O que nos dão a comer / What they give us to eat
Que importa que o coração / What does it matter if the heart
Diga que sim ou que não / Says yes or no
Se continua a viver / If it keeps on living
Que importa que o coração /What does it matter if the heart
Diga que sim ou que não / Says yes or no
Se continua a viver /If it keeps on living
Todo o amor que nos prendera /All the love that had stuck to us
Se quebrara e desfizera / Broke apart and disintegrated
Em pavor se convertia / It converted itself into dread
Ninguém fale em Primavera /Nobody talk about spring
Quem me dera, quem nos dera / If only I, if only we
Ter morrido nesse dia / Had died on that day
Ninguém fale em Primavera /nobody talk about spring
Quem me dera, quem nos dera / If only I if only we
Ter morrido nesse dia / Had died on that day
