Hoje é o aniversário do nosso casamento. 22 anos de casamento luso-britânico! Mas não é por isso que venho, por este meio, bloguear. Hoje é o primeiro dia da primavera e vou participar numa maratona literária baseada na estação do ano em que estamos a entrar. A anfitriã é uma booktuber portuguesa e ela escolheu 16 categorias relacionadas com aquele tema. Estou ligeiramente preocupado pelo tamanho do desafio: 16 livros é muita coisa! Serei capaz de ler tanto e continuar a fazer o meu trabalho de casa? Vamos ver. Mas entretanto, aqui está a minha TBR! Fazemos votos de uma boa primavera, um casal no verão da nossa vida junta!
1. Livro recomendado no bookmedia – Breviário das Almas (Joaquim Mestre – mas não me lembro quem mo recomendou 😕)
2. Livro onde há uma mudança – A Noite (José Saramago – Spoiler alert, o que muda é o país)
3. Livro que aborde Liberdade – Vinte Cinco a Sete Vozes (Alice Vieira – mais um livro sobre o dia 25 de Abril, que será durante a maratona)
4. Livro com flores na capa – O Que Dizer das Flores (Maria Isaac)
5. Livro cujo título comece com a letra R (de Renascer) – Regras de Isolamento (Djamilia Pereira de Almeida, Humberto Brito)
6. Livro de autoria Nacional – A Sereia de Curitaiba (Rhys Hughes – o único livro que tenho de um autor britânico mas escrito em português)
7. Livro cuja capa tenha tons verdes e/ou amarelo – Almanaque da Língua Portuguesa (Marco Neves)
8. Livro com humor – Certas Coisas que Não Sei Explicar (João Quadros)
9. Livro com personagens LGBTQIA+ – No Meu Bairro (Lúcia Vicente – encomendei este livro da Wook porque não tenho nada do género em casa. Espero que o carteiro saiba nadar)
10. Livro infantil ou que remeta à vossa infância – Doze Reis e a Moça no Labarinto do Vento (Marina Colasanti)
11. Livro de um género que não costumas ler – País de Abril (Manuel Alegre – mais uma vez, enfrento o meu inimigo: poesia)
12. Livro de uma série (mínimo duologia) – Uma Aventura nas Férias de Páscoa (Ana Maria Magalhães e Isabel Alçada… O quê? Faz parte de uma série!)
13. Livro que tens estado a adiar – A Noite em Que o Verão Acabou (João Tordo – comecei este livro durante uma maratona do ano passado mas não consegui terminar e logo depois comecei mais uma maratona. 460 páginas ficam por ler)
14. Livro com vários pontos de vista (capítulos por personagem) – Se Perguntarem Por Mim Digam que Voei (Alice Vieira – acho que tem capítulos do ponto de vista de cada um das três raparigas)
15. Livro com mais de 400 páginas – Meridiano 28 (Joel Neto – este tem bom aspeto mas estes calhamaços portugueses assustam-me)
16. Livro com menos de 200 páginas – A Implosão (Nuno Júdice – quero incluir um livro deste autor porque faleceu recentemente)

I’ve got one of those Aventura books! Haven’t read it yet but I bought it last time I was in Portugal as one of the books I’m planning to read in order of difficulty:
1 – Descender (graphic novel)
2 – O diário de um banana (younger children’s book with illustrations)
3 – Uma aventura (middle children’s book)
4 – Ulysses Moore (older children’s book)
So far I’m working my way through stage 2! O diário e um banana is actually really funny. Looking forward to hearing what you think of Uma Aventura!
Also, have you been watching any Portuguese TV shows recently? I watched a little bit of one on RTP play: Desliga a televisão. Really funny but a little beyond my skills right now as it’s a little hard to make out some things they say.

Hi Rox – Descender is Jeff Lemire right? I have a friend who is obsessed with him. Is it any good? I haven’t read Diário de um Banana, not even in English. This will be the second Aventura book I will have read – I reviewed the Christmas one a few weeks ago. They’re good: tales of resourceful children dealing with adventures without adult supervision, like Swallow and Amazons or The Famous Five.
I haven’t even heard of Ulysses Moore. Is it something you’ve read in English or something completely new?
I’ve only watched Pôr do Sol lately but I quite fancy the portuguese version of Taskmaster as well. I know what you mean though – it’s hard to follow a lot of TV dialogue. Have you tried any of the series on Netflix? At least you get subtitles on that – and it’s even better if you use an app called language reactor.

Yeah, Descender is by Jeff Lemire. I’ve only read the first book but I’m really interested to see what happens next. The little robot boy is really cute.
Ulysses Moore is just some random book I picked up second hand. Kind of like Percy Jackson. I haven’t read it but I flicked through it and it seemed like a step up in difficulty from Uma Aventura.
Yeah I need subtitles to figure stuff out, unless it’s something super easy like Porquinha Peppa or Simão Super Coelho. Desliga a televisão has Portuguese subs, so I watched ten mins of it repeatedly: without subs, with subs, with subs and looking stuff up in a dictionary, then without subs again. But they eat their vowels a lot and even when I knew what they were saying it was hard to hear the exact words.
I’ve looked at Netfix a bit but haven’t tried watching anything without English subs yet. Glória didn’t grab me with the first episode but I loved 3%. I’ll try Language Reactor, looks like it makes the learning process a lot easier!

I’d heard 3% was good, yeah, it’s on my list (although I think it’s Brazilian, right?) Rabo de Peixe is better than Gloria, although the sheer quantity of smoking and snorting gets a bit exhausting after a while.
I like the strategy of repeatedly listening to the same few minutes of Desliga a Televisão. That’s probably a good way of tuning in to the spoken language. It’s definitely one of the hardest parts of Portuguese though, so don’t worry if it’s taking you a long time, you’ll get there.
