Reading actual fascist propaganda (well, the story of the Battle of Aljubarrota and a certain padeira of that parish, which was published by the ministry of propaganda in 1939) and of course it uses a lot of pre-acordo spellings. I was struck by the way they write “apesar de” as “A-pesar-de”. I suppose I could have guessed the etymology of the word “apesar” but it would never have occurred to me to think it was such a recent development that it was written with a hyphen within living memory!
